Family City Break – Fürth, Bavaria

By on August 11, 2011

Fürth (german)/Fuerth is a historic city in northern Bavaria, Germany…south of the whole Germany. It is a few kilometers away from Nuremberg. Fürth is also the first city my daughter and I visited in Germany and the whole of Europe after having migrated to Vienna in 2002…This is where mom-in-law has lived since some years before.

Fuerth is a charming city with architecture much defined as European than I’ve seen in Vienna… There are also a lot of corner shops that are so attractive and pleasing for a camera-bug like me…

The first time we visited, we still had my old SLR Canon T60, so the photos were on print. And the following years, we have had different cameras used. Anyway, what can you do and what are some things to see in Fürth? Read on, or look on.

City Park Fürth

City Park Fuerth is one of the parks we’ve often visited. It’s just some minutes away from mil’s place. Probably 4 bus stations or 15 minutes really, but it’s a lovely walk going there. The lawn has a display of beautiful flowers in many colors. There are little ponds and a bigger one where fish and ducks thrive. Then, the kids are allowed to feed them. Which is of course an exciting thing for them, not seeing such creatures in the open that much. (We have a fish at home though).

Since we’ve only visited during spring and mostly summers, we’ve always seen greens and colourful surroundings. Most of the time, we bring a ball or rackets to play with. The vast field of green is an open picnic area. We bring a picnic blanket, some snacks, and drinks, too. During those times, the kids just enjoyed playing around in a completely clean, fresh area.

Water Games

There are small waterways were kids can play at if it gets warm throughout the day. Though we are a no-playguns, swords at home, mom-in-law has waterguns they play with when we visit. Bringing extra shirts, shorts, and towels would be handy.

Mini-Golf Course

The kids have always been ecstatic to play golf ever since experiencing it here. There are about 16 different courses to tackle, each getting more difficult each time. It was also just 2 € per kid to enter, so much fun for less! They would end each round with ice cream every time, most of the first ones we had was here. Like the kitkat cone below.

Cute Spots

Walking around Fuerth is such a delight. The mixture of European architecture with modern designs make the interior designer-wannabe in me really excited. I can’t help but take photos of the pretty corners and cute spots I chance upon. Despite the concrete, cobblestone streets, Fuerth managed to look very green with all the trees and plants it has in abundance.

(Shop door and window)

These photos of windows and doors started what would be a photoblog theme for friends who also enjoy photography. We would post photos of such corners every Wednesday to showcase a part of a city building we’ve visited.

One of my favourites happen to be this window with a table full of pots with herbs.

Clean and spotless, we enjoy walking around the neighborhood. The plaza, even though having pigeons scattered around doesn’t get dirty nor filthy. Props to the government aside cleaners, I guess. They are truly doing their jobs properly.

Playmobil Funpark

Germany’s other big park is located 15 minutes away from Fürth’s city center. They have added a “mini” golf course designed for the kids. Much bigger than the one at the city park. Playmobil is a play haven for kids and kids at heart. Make believe is the theme of the game here, one can become a pirate, a king, a postman, a builder, whatever the child imagines to be. Plus, they serve German dishes that you can enjoy al fresco.

While not as famous as the bigger cities Berlin and Munich, Fuerth has a charm that we would always come back to. It’s a little city, a laidback place that makes you feel at peace even for a short while.
